Post-Colonial literature is increasingly relevant in a globalizing world. A Canadian university has multiple interests in post-coloniality given Canada’s former status as both a French and an English colony as well as what many argue has been the colonial treatment of Canadian First Nations by Canadian governments. Post-colonial literature and theory will guide this examination of nation and narration, Otherness, race, cultural communities, bi-culturalism, diasporism, trans-nationalism, etc. Courses may also examine cultural imperialism (e.g., Hollywood, linguistic hegemony, etc.).
