Des femmes marchent lors de manifestations à Cairo en 2011

The Canada Research Chair in Women, Democracy, and Power in the Francophonie (WDPF) examines how digital environments shape women’s political participation, particularly across the Francophone world. The Chair studies how gender norms operate online—through technology-facilitated violence, narratives linked to foreign interference, and digital practices that influence political engagement and political finance.

By bringing these dynamics together, the Chair analyzes their impact on women’s political power, the quality of public debate, and the resilience of democratic institutions, while identifying ways to promote safer and more inclusive political participation.
