Church Point (NS), January 21, 2020 - It is rare for three sisters from the same family to be enrolled at Université Sainte-Anne at the same time. But this year, this is the case for the Sibbick sisters—Emily, Hannah and Olivia—all three graduates of Montague High School and originally from Cardigan, Prince Edward Island.

The eldest sister, Emily, is in the 4th year of the Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Education program and says she chose Sainte-Anne “to continue my studies in French”. She is aware of the benefits of being bilingual and is therefore committed to seizing opportunities to improve her French. In particular, she chose to participate in the student mobility program which allows her to spend the winter semester in France at Université Bretagne-Sud. During this exchange, she will pursue courses in the Licence Lettres Modernes program (French undergraduate program in contemporary literature), which will afford her an additional opportunity to perfect her French.

Hannah, who is a third-year Bachelor of Science student, says she is very close to her sisters and finds that “it is perfect that Sainte-Anne offers different programs that suit us!” For her, one of the experiences she looks forward to each year is a camping weekend at Quinan Lake. “It's so quiet and fun to take a weekend off campus, while also remaining in a francophone culture!” she explains. For Hannah, it is important to live in a community where she may speak French, which is the case on the Church Point campus, located in the heart of one of Nova Scotia's largest French-speaking communities.

Olivia, the youngest sister, opted for the Bachelor of Science program at Université Sainte-Anne because she feels at home here. “I visited with my family in November and that's when I realized that this is where I want to continue my education. Everyone was so nice and made me feel as though I was still on Prince Edward Island. It was like being part of a family who welcomed me, and I felt loved.”

The Sibbick sisters are hard-working, committed students who are involved in campus life and who, despite their busy schedules, make time to visit each other in their spare time. For example, they appreciate preparing food and eating together in the Bellefontaine residence's newly-renovated kitchen. These are moments they will remember for a long time.
