Borne de recharge

Church Point, NS, October 28th 2016 – Owners of electric or hybrid electric vehicles in the Clare region will be happy to learn that they now have free access to a charging station. The station is located at the Church Point campus of Université Sainte-Anne behind the biomass furnace.

This project was made possible thanks to financial contributions from the Municipality of Clare and the Clare Chamber of Commerce, as well as an in-kind contribution from Université Sainte-Anne. With the support of its key partners, Université Sainte-Anne continues to take concrete measures to become a leader in sustainable rural development and ecology. With the installation of a new electric vehicle charging station, the institution and the community have taken another step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“The installation of this charging station provides the general public and members of the University community the choice of another concrete action they can take to reduce their environmental impact and enhance our collective wellbeing. Such actions strengthen the development of a culture of sustainable development at Université Sainte-Anne and in the Municipality of Clare”, explains Allister Surette, President and Vice-Chancellor of Université Sainte-Anne.

Pam Doucet, Director of Community Development for the Municipality of Clare adds, “We are proud to partner with Université Sainte-Anne on this project that sees the introduction of an additional green path within our municipality, all while offering a service to electric vehicle owners. The location was chosen because it offers drivers things to do while recharging their vehicle. They can visit the university campus, the Petit Bois or the new observatory. There are numerous options.”

The charging station is a Sun Country Highway (SCH 40) that provides 32 amps of continuous current (plugged into 240 volts). The station features a J1772 Electric Vehicle Conductive Charge Coupler allowing compatibility with many different vehicle makes. To access the charging station from Route 1, take the Chemin du Phare and continue past the arena to the garage located behind the biomass furnace. The station can also be found on the website: www.plugshare.com.
