Church Point (NS), March 19, 2026- The Société acadienne de Clare (SAC) and Université Sainte-Anne are pleased to announce the modernisation of the Marc-Lescarbot Theatre. This collaboration aims to strengthen the artistic and cultural event offerings in the Clare region and reflects Université Sainte-Anne’s commitment to remaining deeply rooted in its community.

The improvements will include new technical equipment, notably upgrades to the sound and lighting systems, in order to meet current professional standards and offer optimal conditions for both artists and audiences.

This initiative represents the first phase of a multi‑year revitalization project for the theatre. The goal is for the theatre, built in 1986, to continue serving as a gathering place—attracting tourists and residents alike to celebrate arts and culture in the region—thereby contributing to its cultural and economic vitality.

The project is funded through a non‑repayable contribution of $200,000 from the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with a contribution of $120,280 from the Office of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie of the Province of Nova Scotia.

“This support allows us to take a decisive step in the modernization of the Marc-Lescarbot Theatre. Thanks to these investments, we will be able to acquire essential equipment that will enhance the experience of artists, technicians, and the public, while ensuring the long-term sustainability of this flagship cultural venue in our community.”

Natalie Robichaud, Executive Director of the Société acadienne de Clare

“We are delighted to once again build a strong partnership with a community organization that shares our values. This funding will help revitalize a space where community members join our students and staff to celebrate arts and culture. Together, we continue to foster a deep sense of belonging within our community.”

Kenneth Deveau, President and Vice-Chancellor of Université Sainte-Anne

“Projects like this remind us of what is possible when a community and its supporters come together to accomplish something meaningful. These improvements not only highlight Clare’s rich artistic talent, but also strengthen the preservation and celebration of Acadian culture and the French language, reflecting the resilience and enduring spirit of this community and its people.”

Chris d’Entremont, Member of Parliament for Acadie–Annapolis, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, P.C., K.C., Member of Parliament for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

“Université Sainte-Anne and the Société acadienne de Clare are renowned pillars in southwest Nova Scotia that contribute significantly to the vitality of the region. This investment in the Salle Marc-Lescarbot ensures that Clare can continue to enjoy a modern, safe and versatile gathering place. It's a space that supports artistic and cultural events and strengthens connections to the community’s Acadian culture and French language.”
