Church Point (NS), August 20, 2025 - Université Sainte-Anne is pleased to announce $845,750 in new funding to offer training in early childhood education. This funding will help build a qualified and committed workforce, essential to the quality of educational services provided to young children.

Direct Support for Early Childhood Education Students

Université Sainte-Anne is pleased to collaborate with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to offer full scholarships to 30 new students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education diploma program, as well as to 15 new individuals enrolled in the Level I classification training for the 2025–2026 academic year. Part of the funding will also be invested in the development of the Recognition of Prior Learning and Competencies (RPL) project and its associated assessments.

“I’m very proud to be partnering with Université Sainte-Anne to help meet the child care needs of Nova Scotia’s Acadian and Francophone families,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brendan Maguire. “All families deserve access to reliable and affordable child care with qualified, passionate professionals providing that care. I’m so pleased this funding will help Université Sainte-Anne train the workforce we need.”

"There would be no early learning and child care system without early childhood educators,” said Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario. “This investment will enable 45 students from Université Sainte-Anne to acquire the necessary training to join a skilled workforce, helping to continue providing better access to quality child care services for Francophone families in Nova Scotia."

The $360,750 in provincial funding from the province to Université Sainte-Anne is made possible by contributions received through the Canada-Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Agreement (Accord entre le Canada et la Nouvelle-Écosse sur l’apprentissage et la garde des jeunes enfants).

New Projects for Francophone Communities

An additional funding of $485,000 was granted by the Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne (ACUFC) through the Government of Canada's Early Learning and Child Care Program. Two two-year projects will be carried out by Université Sainte-Anne. The first aims to offer specialized training in mental health, diversity, intercultural education, and managing children with special needs. The second will focus on promoting the early childhood profession within Francophone communities.

A Renewed Commitment to Early Childhood

These investments reflect Université Sainte-Anne’s commitment to training a qualified workforce and meeting the growing need for quality educational child care services in Nova Scotia’s Francophone communities.
